Soy Sauce – Soy free (imitation soy sauce)

Can’t eat soy sauce because it’s made from soy?

Soy sauce is a very common ingredient in Asian dishes but for people allergic to the main ingredient, soy, then dishes requiring soy sauce have been out of the question. Until now! Introducing our imitation soy sauce. We hope that this post helps to introduce (or re-introduce) Asian food to anyone who suffers from a soy allergy or soy intolerance. While we have found this to be a great substitute to address David’s soy allergy, we are still searching for ways to get around his other serious allergens that pop up in Asian cuisine — peanuts, sesame and tree nuts. We hope to get back to you soon with suitable recipes and substitutions.

Soy sauce can be used for so many dishes  Here are some potential uses for the bevalier kitchen* soy sauce (list heavily modified from the examiner.com):

  • BBQ Sauce – add a few splashes of our soy sauce and a tablespoon of brown sugar to your favorite bottled sauce. It adds a nice deep flavor and golden color to your grilled foods.
  • Breakfast – leftover steamed rice, eggs (fried or scrambled), and a splash of soy sauce makes for a tasty breakfast.
  • Salad dressing – use soy in the base of your favorite vinaigrette recipes. A little grated ginger gives a delicious Asian twist to the standard salad and remains David Safe.
  • Poultry – brush onto chicken in the last few minutes of roasting to add a nice deep color to the skin.

As a child I was able to eat soy sauce but as a teen I developed a serious throat swelling allergy to soy sauce. This really tastes as good as the real deal so I’m super happy that Amy could make such an impressive imitation soy sauce.[/gdlr_tab]
